Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes — solar panels work all year round in the UK. While they generate the most electricity during the sunnier summer months, they still produce energy on cloudy days and throughout winter. Modern solar panels are designed to work efficiently in daylight rather than direct sunlight, so even in lower light conditions they continue to generate power. Combined with battery storage, solar panels can help maximise your energy use year-round and reduce reliance on the grid.
The cost of solar panels can vary depending on several factors, including the size of the system, the type of panels selected, and any additional equipment or services required.
At M+S Renewables, we offer tailored, sustainable energy solutions designed around your individual needs. To provide an accurate quotation, we carry out a free consultation, survey and quotation, where we assess your energy usage, roof condition and other key factors to ensure your system is both efficient and cost-effective.
Solar panel installations with M+S Renewables start from £3,945.

Solar panels installed by M+S Renewables are designed to be highly durable and efficient, generally lasting between 25 to 30 years.
Our expert installation process and high-quality materials ensure that the panels maintain optimal performance throughout their lifespan.
Additionally, we provide comprehensive maintenance and support services to maximise the longevity and efficiency of your solar energy system.
This commitment to quality and sustainability reflects our mission to shine a light on sustainable energy solutions, offering you a reliable and eco-friendly investment for the long term.
Firstly, solar panels significantly reduce your electricity bills by harnessing the sun's power, allowing you to generate your own renewable energy. This not only leads to long-term savings but also protects against future energy price hikes.
Secondly, solar panels contribute to reducing your carbon footprint. By switching to solar energy, you directly cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, assisting in the fight against climate change.
Furthermore, installing solar panels can increase the value of your property, as homes equipped with renewable energy systems are increasingly sought after. M+S Renewables uses high-quality, efficient solar technology and provides expert installation services, ensuring you maximise the return on your investment.
Our team is dedicated to offering tailored energy solutions that align with your specific needs, ensuring a seamless transition to green energy.
If you move house, your solar panel system can still offer great value. In many cases, solar panels add appeal and value to your property, making it more attractive to potential buyers. Alternatively, depending on the system and circumstances, it may be possible to have the system removed and reinstalled at your new property. Our team can advise you on the best option based on your situation and help guide you through the process.
Over time, dirt, dust, bird droppings, and other debris can accumulate on the surface of your solar panels, reducing their ability to absorb sunlight effectively. This can lead to a decrease in energy production and, consequently, a lower overall efficiency of your system.
For the best results, we recommend cleaning your solar panels at least twice a year or whenever you notice a significant accumulation of dirt.
Simple maintenance like rinsing the panels with water or using a soft brush and a mild detergent can help.
If you're unsure about cleaning them yourself or require a more thorough cleaning, please contact M+S Renewables and we can provide the best solution for the cleaning and maintenance of your solar panels.
Your solar system is connected to the grid through a bi-directional meter, which measures the flow of electricity in both directions. Here's how it works with your energy supplier:
1. Energy Production and Consumption: During daylight hours, your solar panels generate electricity. This electricity can be used instantly to power your household or business needs. If your solar system produces more electricity than you consume, the surplus energy is sent back to the grid.
2. Net Metering: Your energy supplier tracks the surplus energy that is sent back to the grid through a process known as net metering. Essentially, you receive credits for the excess electricity your system produces, which can offset the electricity you draw from the grid when your panels are not producing enough energy, like during night time or cloudy days.
3. Electricity Bills: At the end of each billing cycle, your energy supplier will calculate your net electricity usage. If you have sent more electricity to the grid than you have consumed, you can receive a credit on your bill. Conversely, if you have used more electricity than your system has produced, you will be billed for the net consumption.
Our team at M+S Renewables will work with you and your energy supplier to ensure a seamless integration of solar power into your energy plan. We will also be able to provide guidance and support to maximise your energy efficiency through usage and supplier tariffs.
