Your solar system is connected to the grid through a bi-directional meter, which measures the flow of electricity in both directions. Here's how it works with your energy supplier:

1. Energy Production and Consumption: During daylight hours, your solar panels generate electricity. This electricity can be used instantly to power your household or business needs. If your solar system produces more electricity than you consume, the surplus energy is sent back to the grid.

2. Net Metering: Your energy supplier tracks the surplus energy that is sent back to the grid through a process known as net metering. Essentially, you receive credits for the excess electricity your system produces, which can offset the electricity you draw from the grid when your panels are not producing enough energy, like during night time or cloudy days.

3. Electricity Bills: At the end of each billing cycle, your energy supplier will calculate your net electricity usage. If you have sent more electricity to the grid than you have consumed, you can receive a credit on your bill. Conversely, if you have used more electricity than your system has produced, you will be billed for the net consumption.
